The state of Arizona Reported Nearly 300 Deaths and 10,000 Cases
Arizona reported nearly 300 coronavirus deaths, a severe pandemic, and nearly 10,000 new infections Thursday.
Health officials have urged Governor Doug Ducey to take new measures as the number of cases rises. Arizona has the highest rate of coronavirus diagnoses in the country, with one in 119 people testing positive in the past week.
Governor Doug Ducey rejected calls for tighter restrictions, including a mask mandate. He also rejected a proposal by all public schools to switch to distance learning for two weeks after the vacation.
The increase puts Arizona's health care system to the test, with 4,920 patients of COVID-19 recorded occupying inpatient hospital beds and a record number of 1,101 in intensive care.
