The Senate reschedules the confirmation vote for Neera Tanden
On Wednesday, the White House indicated its support for OMB candidate Neera Tanden after rescheduling the vote on her appointment in the Senate.
“Neera Tanden is a leading political expert who brings important assessments to the negotiating table during this period of unprecedented crisis," White House Press Secretary Jane Psaki said on Twitter.
The Senate Homeland Security Committee vote was scheduled to take place at 10:00 a.m. EST Wednesday but was postponed early Wednesday morning. The decision may show the White House does not have the votes to confirm Tanden in the Senate split 50-50.
Tanden faced opposition from moderate Senators Mitt Romney (R-UT), Joe Manchin (D-WV), and Susan Collins (R-ME), citing his party history of activism and scathing criticism on social media against prominent figures.
