The arrest of Julian Assange in London mix reaction of US lawmakers on Thursday morning
Julian Assange's arrest in London drew a mix reactions of both parties Lawmakers on Thursday morning - especially when the Justice Department accused WikiLeaks of conspiring to infiltrate a computer on the mastermind of WikiLeaks.
47-year-old Assange is being accused of working with Whistleblower Army Pvt Ltd. Chelsea Manning, a former US intelligence analyst, to crack the password stored on the US Department of Defense to obtain Pentagon documents classified in 2010. If convicted, Assange can be sentenced to five years in prison.
"Manning, who had access to the computers in connection with her duties as an intelligence analyst, was using the computers to download classified records to transmit to WikiLeaks. Cracking the password would have allowed Manning to log on to the computers under a username that did not belong to her," the DOJ said in an indictment released Thursday.
