House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Thursday that House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) should assist with the House of Representatives committee probing the Capitol hack.
Kevin McCarthy had said the day before that he would not participate in the committee's "misuse of authority" that "stains our organization today and will hurt it in the future."
The Select Committee to Explore the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol consists of just two Republicans, both of whom were appointed by Pelosi.
McCarthy withdrew all of his nominations and denounced the process after House Speaker John Boehner refused to seat two of McCarthy's nominees.
Now, he and other Republicans selected by the inquiry are refusing to comply, raising the possibility that the committee could issue subpoenas against their colleagues.
Pelosi stated that she was aware of the committee's plans but would not discuss them with the media.
“They make their decisions and they come forward and I’m not prepared to say what they do next, but they’ll be telling us,” she said.
