Senate acquits Trump on Wednesday in historic vote re-election battle looms
President Donald Trump was acquitted on Wednesday in his U.S. Senate impeachment trial, saved by fellow Republicans.
Trump was acquitted largely along party lines on two articles of impeachment approved by the Democratic-led House of Representatives on Dec.
The Senate voted 52-48 to acquit him of abuse of power and a
obstruction of congress. Republican Senator Mitt Romney joined the Democrats in the vote to condemn. No Democrat voted in favor of the discharge.
On each of the two charges, the senators voted one by one on the Senate floor with Chief Justice John Roberts presiding.
