President Donald Trump said Thursday he would have the FBI and the Justice Department review "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett's case.
"It is an embarrassment to our Nation!" Trump tweeted.
It is not clear what federal authorities should do about Smollett after local Chicago prosecutors decided to drop the case against him.
Trump's critics said the president was playing a racist policy with the Smollet case, which seeks to undermine the victims of real, growing racial violence.
"By claiming a false attack, Smollett tried to exploit the hate @realDonaldTrump has stirred," tweeted
David Axelrod, former adviser to President Barack Obama. "Now, as expected, Trump is going to exploit Smolet's exploitation and talked about a vicious circle!"
Police recognized Smolit as a victim for an assault for weeks after the incident. The case modified after he informed the Oswaldir brothers, who were about to be accused by using police, of the investigators that they had worked with Smolite to carry out the attack.
Johnson stated the brothers informed the investigators that Smolet hopes to use the incident to increase his fame and salary.
