France orders schools to be closed and COVID-19 restrictions extended
President Emmanuel Macron extended the restrictions imposed on movement to include all parts of France, saying that schools will be closed for three weeks as he seeks to defeat the third wave of infections with the emerging Coronavirus, which threatens to bypass hospitals.
Macron said it is extending lockdown rules already in place in Paris, the northern margin, and parts of the southeast to include the entire country for at least a month, starting on Saturday.
The epidemic has killed 95,337 people in France, leaving intensive care units in the hardest-hit regions on the brink of collapse.
