Democrats are moving to punish Gop congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene as McCarthy refuses to act
Democrats in the House of Representatives go ahead with a vote on Thursday to strip first-year Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of her committee duties after Republican leaders refused to act unilaterally, rather than attacking the Democrats.
The already tense situation escalated dramatically on Wednesday, as Democrats turned down a last-minute offer by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy to suspend the vote if Republicans accepted an alternative form of punishment. McCarthy later issued a statement criticizing Democrats, accusing them of “partisan power grab.”
“I understand that Marjorie’s comments have caused deep wounds to many and as a result, I offered Majority Leader Hoyer a path to lower the temperature and address these concerns,” Kevin McCarthy said.
The Dem controlled House Rules Committee met Wednesday afternoon to tee up the Greene resolution for a Thursday vote.
