Biden chooses former US Senator Nelson as NASA Chief- White House

President Joe Biden has tapped former U.S. senator and astronaut Bill Nelson to lead the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the White House said in a statement on Friday.

Nelson, a Democrat from Florida, home to NASA's Kennedy Space Station at Cape Canaveral, must obtain approval from the United States Senate to be confirmed for the position.

Nelson has always had a deep interest in NASA. The Space Shuttle Columbia flew in 1986 and is currently a member of the NASA Advisory Council.
