New York prosecutors on Monday ruled that former governor Andrew Cuomo did not break the law by misguiding the public about the amount of COVID-19 deaths associated with nursing homes, the former governor's attorney said.
Cuomo's lawyer Elkan Abramowitz told reporters that he was notified Monday that the Manhattan district attorney's office completed an investigation and was not going to file charges against the Democrat.
“I was contacted today by the head of the Elder Care Unit from the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office who informed me they have closed its investigation involving the Executive Chamber and nursing homes,” Abramowitz said.
The investigation was initiated after Attorney General Letitia James revealed that the New York City Department of Health had underreported COVID-19 deaths by at least 50 percent while Cuomo was in office.
