A judge refused to release Ghislaine Maxwell on bail, saying she posed an escape risk
Ghislaine Maxwell, the longtime partner of Jeffrey Epstein, was denied bail on Monday, and a judge said she risks fleeing the country if released.
"The court found that the government had fulfilled the burden of persuasion that the defendant posed a risk of escape and that pretrial detention was still justified," Obama-nominated District Court judge Alison Nathan wrote.
The complete order and attached opinion contain potentially confidential information, so the judge allows the parties two days to propose and justify any wording. After the judge weighs these proposals, the opinion and the complete order are published in the court file.
